Tribune Citrus Maximus was a legendary veteran of many battles. He had fought the Limes of the south,
conquered the vast territory, once ruled by the mighty hordes of Oranges.
Every young Lemon of the empire knew the name Citrus Maximus. Bards sang hymns of praise about him. But never in his life had he faced such fierce foes, the potato warriors.
The usually scattered and in tribes living vegetables formed a huge alliance. Not only had they formed a pact underneath each other, no the alliance included the wild roots from the north. The tribes of Carrots, Parsnips, Beetroots, Turnips and Radishes joined forces under the banner of the potato’s. All of those battle hardened warriors joined the battle against the legions of Lemons. How they were able to convince the pumpkins to fight on their side was a total mystery to Citrus.
On the battlefield his legionnaires threw their pilums with all their might, but it was in vain. They couldn’t pierce the thick skin of the large pumpkins. Which just rolled like giant hedgehogs over Citrus’s soldiers and squashed them under their weight. Lemonade slowly soaked the grounds of battle. The stench that rose into Citrus’s nose made him gag. Lifeless and squeezed lay his Lemons to his feet.
He wouldn’t surrender that easily, he was Citrus Maximus. With a lemon curdling scream he rallied his troops to one last advance. He ordered his Lemons to form a pilum formation and press forward. The goal, taking out the general of the enemy.
Citrus had to stop the invasion now or thousands of
innocent Lemons would be slaughtered by the
vegetables. His desperate plan worked and he found himself face to face with the potato general. He ducked underneath the swing of the generals axe, and swiftly drew his Gladius across the potato’s body, starch dripping out of the open wound. He yelled “for the empire” and killed the general of the potato’s.
Suddenly he felt the piercing pain in his chest. As he slowly looked down he saw multiple arrows peeking out of his torso. With a sour smile on his face he let himself fall into the dankness enveloping him, knowing he saved the empire.
