Baltimore under the Bed

Rattle-rattle a rythmic sound echoed through young Tommy’s bedroom.

He held his breath in anticipation, to hear the strange noice once more. Just when he thought he would burst under the pressure, a soft rattling broke the silence.

The thought of running to his mother crossed Tommy’s mind, but he was already in fourth grade, so basically a grown-up. And he wanted to become a brave policeman.

So after a deep breath, he slowly let his peeking head down. In disbelief, he rubbed his eyes and plummeted down, landing in an

awkwardly twisted position in front of his bed.

The orange man did a graceful bow and stepped into the moonlight shining through the window.

“G’d even’in young man” greeted the tiny man. Tommy, now seated, looked down, a thousand questions ran through his mind.

“What are you doing under my bed?”

“I’m dancin through the night.”

“But why under my bed?”

“Don’t have much of a choice,” replied the tiny man, pointing towards his ankles. A fine chain glittered in the moonlight.

He introduced himself as Baltimore and gifted the next dance to Tommy.

Baltimore was a dancer through and through. His movements flowed elegant like a river,

leaving an orange blurr of mist behind.

It was the most captivating performance Tommy ever saw.

Something shifted inside him, and he knew that he would become a dancer.

Thomas is one of the greatest dancers to ever live, all thanks to the tiny orange man once shackled underneath his bed.
